Florence and the machine- lungs album poster2
Image-
- The image shows the artist in looking up at the sky in a almost angelic way, this could reflect her childlike innocence
- Also, the fact that her arms are spread open, could suggest that she may feel free, which could refer to the way she feels about her music.
- The artist is wearing a white dress, which connotes a sense of innocence. Also, the pink colours that surround her could also connote a sense of purity and references to a young girl.
- The artist is positioned on the centre of the poster, this shows her importance. It is also showing the audience that because she is a solo artist, that fact that she hasn’t got anyone else on the poster, shows that she is the only aspect of her music.
- There are bright, coloured lights surrounding her in front of a dark background. The fact that the brightness is overshadowing the dark, could suggest that the album is going to include aspects of fun and happiness. But it could also show that the album is going to include a serious side as well.
- The artist’s facial expression looks quite thoughtful. Almost as though she is really concentrating on what she is doing. This could also add to the seriousness of her music and the commitment she has to it.
Copy-
- The font used is quite soft, reflecting the calmness that is made present in other aspects of the poster.
- The curvy font style almost reflects the curviness of a woman’s body. This could help emphasise the femininity of the album.
Genre-
- In some aspects of the poster, the genre is communicated well. For example:
- The fact that the artist’s arms are wide open, suggests a sense of freedom, which is an element of the indie genre that is very dominant in the indie genre.
- Also, the fact that one of the themes of the album is love, is shown by the colours that are used on the poster.
Target audience-
- The target audience isn’t made as clear as the genre of the album.
- The fact that she is a woman and the youthfulness of her face, suggests that the target audience could be maybe young females.
Mode of address-
- The tone that is created is uplifting and almost spiritual.- the fact that the artist is quite beautiful, make the audience feel at ease when they look at the rest on the poster.- this could reflect the ways in which the artist may want the audience to feel whilst listening to her album.
Tagline/title-
- The title of the album “Lungs” reflects the genre of the album-indie. The uniqueness and almost enigmatic way in which the word has been used, automatically poses many questions into the audiences mind. For example:
- Why has she called it this?
- Are lungs relevant in the album? etc
Representation-
- The way gender has been represented on the poster, makes women seem empowered and free. -in some ways, this idea could act as a countertype of the dominant ideology of the indie genre. Nowadays, “indie” as a genre is very male populated, therefore the fact that the artist has gone against this by including herself on the poster for her album, shows that she may want to go against the norm and be different.
