Analysing a advert- Noah and the whale - first days of spring promotional poster

Analysing an advert-
Noah and the whale - first days of spring promotional poster
Image-
·         The image on the poster is the same image that is used on the cover. The fact that the image has been used twice, helps the audience to recognise the image in more places, therefore this could be seen as being a persuasive device for the audience.
Copy-
·         The text on the poster is again black with various sizes.
·         There is more text on the poster compared to the album cover. It has been set out like a film poster. This element matches one of the props used in both the poster and the album cover, the camera. Seeing the poster and the film element to it helps the audience create a relationship between the camera and the album cover.
·         Another film poster element to the poster is the additional comments and ratings from various professionals from the industry such as: Q and NME magazine. The fact that the album received such positive reviews and ratings, could help persuade the audience to buy or listen to the album.
Genre-
  • The fact that the band have decide to create an poster which has a film element to it is quite quirky, therefore, the genre is elevated more in this that on the album cover.

Target audience-
  • The target audience again like the album cover isn’t really made obvious by the elements of the poster, but like the cover the youthfulness of the image gives an insight into the possible target audience of both the poster and the album cover.

Mode of address-
  • The mood is again calm but this time, the poster gives off a sense of fun and quirkiness due to the style of the poster.

Tag line/ title-
  • The tag line “a film and album by Noah and the Whale” reflects the poster and the album. The band created short clips during the process of making the album, therefore the fact they have decided to include this on the poster shows that they feel that showing the audience the process in which they created the album is just as important as the album itself.

Representation-
  • The male gender is represented in a very stereotypical way- that sense of men controlling everything and a patriarchal society is elevated by the fact that there aren’t any women on the cover or inside the album.
  • Class isn’t really made obvious through the album cover, this could show that the band feel as though class may not be a very important aspect of their music.
  • In regards to ethnicity, the fact that the men are all white is elevating the dominant ideology of the specific genre. Mainly indie band nowadays are white, male orientated, this could suggest that other ethnicities tend to create music in other genre such as: pop or RnB.
