Analysing a CD cover-
The fray- the fray
Image-
· The lights on the cover are one of the main aspects of the cover.
· The fact that the cover has such a dark background makes the bright lights stand out even more. It could connote that the album is going to include serous songs with a lighter feel to them.
· The blurred people seem like passersby. This could show that the band feel as though everyone around them is moving fast, but their music manages to stand still.
· The number 2 could connote a feeling of being second best that the band may feel.
· The bricks help to make the surroundings seem real to the audience.
Copy-
· The word “the” is quite soft and calmly written. This could connote a sense of calmness that could be present in the bands music.
· The word “FRAY” seems a lot more serious and harsher, which could reflect the other side of the bands album.
Genre-
· The genre of the album isn’t really elevated in the album.
· The fact that the album cover as a whole is quite dark, could connote a sense of a more serious and deeper genre of music such as: rock.
Target audience-
· The seriousness of the album cover may appeal to an older audience who like having to look deeper to find their answer to a question.
Mode of address-
· The tone created is quite dark and mysterious, but in some ways, the light helps to lift the mood of the cover.
Name-
· The fact that the band have decided to self title their album, could show the audience just how much they believe in their music.- therefore almost persuading the audience to believe in them as well.
Representation-
· Class isn’t really represented on the cover, but the fact that the cover is quite complex, could suggest that it represents someone from an upper class.
