Analysing a music video-
Dirty projectors- stillness is the move
Image-
· The costumes that the women in the video are wearing are quite futuristic, which connotes that the song is almost out of this world.
· There are number of different camera shots and movement in the video. For example: the tracking shot of when the women are running with the dogs, is effective because it allows the audience to get a clear image of the action as it happens. The fact that the dogs are running connotes a sense of both freedom and restrain. The fact that the dogs are running immediately makes the audience feel empowered and reflects the bands feeling about their music. But the fact that the dogs are on leases, could show that the band may often feel that they are being restrained from doing or creating the music that they really want to.
· There aren’t any props that are used in the video except from the guitar that one the male members of the band are playing. This could suggest that the band may feel as though other aspects of the video aren’t as important as the music.
Editing-
· Te pace of the videos is quite natural for example: the s=dance sequences is just the chorography, without any added extras, this shows that the band may want to connotes a natural feel of the video to the audience.
· Also, in one of the scenes, one of the male members of the band is playing the guitar whilst spinning on the spot. The fact that he is spinning elevates that sense of freedom that other aspects of the video also show.
Genre-
· Genre is made clear by the majority of the aspects of the video- sense of freedom.
· The use of the natural surroundings help to elevate the dominant ideology of the genre.
Target audience-
· The simplicity of the video suggests that the audience may be of a mature status.
Narrative-
· There isn’t really a narrative structure within the video, but the freedom of the women in some ways goes against some of the dominant ideologies of women in music videos in general.
