Image-
- The colours used on the poster could suggest the feelings of the band towards their music. The most dominant colours used are red and black which both have different connotes. For example: red connotes a sense of pain, danger of love. Therefore, this could suggest that these are these that are present in the album. Also, the colour black connotes a sense of mystery and seriousness; therefore this could also be a theme in the album.
- The white background connotes a sense of purity; therefore, this could suggest that there are two sides to the band. Also the fact there is coloured image in front of a white background, could suggest that the music on the album may portray the idea of the seriousness and the love aspect of the album may over shadow the purer side of it.
- The woman on the poster seems to be wearing a white dress, which helps to reinforce the idea of the band having aspects of innocence.
- The fact there are two hawks on the cover, shows an element of freedom the band may have.
Copy-
- The font that is used on the poster is quite simple in regards to the colour and the style. This effective because it doesn’t detract the audiences attention away from the image which the central element of the poster.
- The fact that the colour of the font is black, could suggest the seriousness of the album is a very important aspect of it.
Genre-
· The genre of the album isn’t really elevated through the poster. But there is a sense of freedom towards the album that the band may portray in their album.
· The fact that there is a man and a woman on the poster, could suggest that the genre has elements of love, relationships in it.
Target audience-
- The target audience of poster like the genre isn’t made clear due to number of things. The cat that you can’t see the model’s faces, could connote that the album may appeal to people who appreciate the idea of having to figure things out for themselves instead being given everything.
Mode of address-
- The tone created in some ways is quite uneasy; in regards to the way it makes you feel as soon as you see it for the first time. For example: the colours and the feathers cause the audience to have to really look at the poster a few times before they finally come to a logical idea as to what the image.
Tagline/title-
- The title of the album “ONLY BY THE NIGHT” connotes a number of things. For example: the fact that love seems to be one of the themes of the alum, the fact that the word night is used, could have sexual connotations.
- Also the fat that the word Only is used could show that the band my feel that the album should probably be listened to at night to experience the desired effect.
Representation-
- The poster doesn’t really portray the different aspects of representation. But there is an aspect of a possible mature audience because, of the difficulty to understand the poster.
Enigma-
- An enigma has been created by the fact that the audience may be intrigued as to why certain aspects of the poster have been included.
